"Flambards" is my favourite book of the series. It is the first one of what was originally a trilogy before the arrival of "Flambards Divided".
It covers the first five episodes of the television series, which sees Christina arrive at Flambards. She discovers a divided house where Uncle Russell and his eldest son Mark are obsessed by horses and hunting, and younger son William, who has just broken his leg as the story opens, prefers the new flying machines.
Christina fits in well, I think, with the fabric of the house, learning to ride and loving hunting whilst also attempting to learn about Will's passion - flying.
The conflicts between Mark, William and Uncle Russell mark this out as the finest book of the series, and also this is reflected in the televised version. Episodes 1 to 5 were my favourite in the whole series.
